In the final year of each of the IB programmes, the students undertake a special project to demonstrate their understanding of all of the components of that programme. The PYP Exhibition is the culminating project of the Primary Years Programme (PYP). The Exhibition is an extended unit of inquiry that is completely student-driven. The students consider many issues in the world and settle upon one they would like to learn more about. They research into that topic and then, empowered with new found knowledge, decide upon ways of taking action in order to make a difference in the world. It is hoped that this action becomes sustainable and not just something that happens during the Exhibition process. As well as action, students demonstrate each of the Learner Profile attributes as well as the Approaches to Learning skills.
This week saw Discovery College Year 6 students present their showcases to parents and students. During the Exhibition showcase, the students talked about their learning from throughout the unit. The focus was on explaining the process they undertook in deciding upon the topic of interest, writing questions to guide their learning, researching through interviewing experts in the field of their research, through online sources (including AI), through books and other sources of information. Each group then explained the action they took and the impact they hoped they made. We are all extremely proud of all the students. It gives us all great confidence in knowing that the future world is in the hands of such deep thinkers and very caring human beings.
