End of Term Assembly

Today marked a memorable conclusion to our term at Discovery College with a spirited Christmas assembly for the whole college, led by our Student Council. Our audience of 1500 was treated to a delightful array of musical performances and a dance rendition from our recent production of Little Shop of Horrors.

In addition to the entertaining performances, our assembly included festive Christmas-themed jokes that (mostly!) kept everyone in high spirits, especially whenever there was a mention of 6-7!

Our student leaders also provided updates on various aspects of the school year, highlighting the achievements and experiences we've shared, from House events to cultural celebrations, to achievements in sports and the arts.

Ms Pollack, our Principal, delivered a heartfelt Christmas message, fostering a sense of unity and celebration among all attendees. It was a wonderful way to celebrate our first term and look forward to the holidays.

Celebrating Community through Theatre - Little Shop of Horrors

This year’s production of Little Shop of Horrors was more than just a performance—it was a celebration of resilience, teamwork, and community spirit. At a time when Hong Kong continues to mourn the victims of the Tai Po disaster, the show reminded us of the importance of coming together, sharing laughter, and finding joy in creativity.

The Cast:

Our students, from Year 7 to Year 13, poured countless hours into rehearsals, building a true production company. From leads and dance captains to puppeteers and cameo roles, every student shone. A special mention goes to Verabella, whose dedication and growth made her a standout star. For our graduating Year 13s—Csombor, Nate, Eric, and Bonnie—they have been incredible role models and this final performance was a fitting tribute to their years of commitment and leadership.

The Crew:

From our phenomenal lighting and sound teams, hair and makeup artists, and the staff behind the scenes—from stage set-up to props creation—to our arts and music team for their fabulous contributions, and of course, our Theatre team who drove this vision to life… a huge thank you to each and every one of you.

Two students need a special mention here: our assistant stage manager (Lila,  a Year 8 student) needed to take over the key role of Stage manager only a few weeks ago. She held the production together backstage, becoming a master at leading the crew in running a full scale production like this one.

While Lucia (Year 12 student) broke new ground as our first Assistant Student Director, proving herself indispensable both on and off stage, and an amazing star!

Staff:

The production was supported by an extraordinary team of teachers and staff. From set painting and costume design to choreography, music direction, procurement and technical leadership, their guidance gave students the chance to shine. Their dedication turned months of preparation into a spectacular evening. A huge thank you to the following staff - Mr Lester, Ms Mitchell, Mr Davis, Ms Gibson, Ms Allen, Ms Tasker, Ms Neale, Ms Self, Ms Grant, Ms Tate, Ms Yang, Mr Veilleux, Mr Sweet, Ms Chan, Mr Tadeo, Ms Wong and finally to the director and creative producer of this show - Ms Veilleux.

A heartfelt thank you to our Leadership team and to all the parents and families who joined us in celebrating this achievement and supporting our students all the way.

DC's Symphony of Stories: Book Week 2025

With the theme "Symphony of Stories", Book Week was a tremendous success, packed with activities celebrating DC's love of reading.

The week kicked off with the creative Great Bookish Bake Off in secondary and parent-led storytelling at the Multilingual Bazaar in primary. Throughout the week, students enjoyed drawing activities, participating in quizzes, reading camps, and buddy reading sessions, fostering a vibrant environment for literacy across the school.

The Library team sincerely thanks all parent volunteers, teachers, staff, and students for their contributions and support in nurturing our readers.

As Book Week ends, the love of reading doesn't stop! Please let it continue into the holiday season.

DC Defeats YMCA in the HKSSF Football Finals

In one of the most dramatic matches in recent memory, DC’s boys football team battled through a physical contest to secure a last‑minute 3–2 victory over YMCA and claim the HKSSF District championship.

DC started strong with an early goal from Harry, but YMCA fought back to level before half‑time and later took a 2–1 lead. Showing resilience and determination, DC equalised through Jack before Ofir finished a brilliant move set up by Kameron to seal the winning goal.

The closing minutes saw heroic defending, outstanding saves from Kai, and players pushing through injury to protect the lead. When the final whistle blew, the team celebrated a hard‑earned triumph that showcased courage, unity, and school spirit.

Congratulations to the squad on making DC proud — and thank you to the supporters who cheered them on. The boys now look ahead to further challenges in 2026, Ying Jing, ACAMIS and ISSHK Championships.

Book Week: Beat the Teacher Showdown

The annual Beat the Teacher showdown returned with plenty of brainpower and banter as students and staff battled it out over the books, Death and the Maiden, The Hunger Games, and A Streetcar Named Desire.

Leading the charge for the staff were Mr Kirk, Mr McGoey, Ms Neale and Mr Wilkinson, who faced some impressively well-prepared students in a series of tense, high-stakes questions. With the ever‑enthusiastic Mr Mack keeping score (and the rain off) by banging away on the drum kit, the event had the theatre rocking, and in a nail-biting finish the teachers edged the win, bringing the overall series score to 2–2. All to play for next year!!

Chalk Up Your Imagination: House Drawing Competition

Our talented artists from grades 7-11 brought their creativity to life in a vibrant chalk drawing competition as part of our Book Week celebrations. Each House showcased their unique flair by incorporating both their house elements and beloved book characters, turning our outdoor space into a stunning open air gallery.

End of Term Laptop Health Check

As we approach the end of Term 1, we want to remind you of the importance of maintaining your child’s laptop. Many students from Year 6 to Year 10 have enquired about ways to free up storage on their devices, particularly noting that their Downloads folder has accumulated a significant number of files.

We recommend following some basic principles to help maintain the life expectancy of their device. To assist you supporting your child, we recommend the following key steps:

  • Clear the Downloads Folder:

Encourage your child to review the Downloads folder and delete any outdated or unnecessary files. This can help free up valuable storage space.

  • Clear the Browser Cache:

Teach your child how to clear the cache in their preferred web browser (such as Chrome, Firefox, or Edge). Regularly clearing the cache can help improve performance and free up additional space.

  • Consider an External Hard Drive:

If your child’s laptop is running low on storage, think about purchasing an external hard drive. This will allow your child to back up their schoolwork and free up internal storage.

By following these steps, (please use the parent guide on the parent portal) your child can help ensure their laptop runs efficiently throughout the school year. Involving them in this process not only supports their device's health but also helps them develop valuable organisational and technical skills.

As we enter the holidays, we hope the laptops get some well-deserved rest, allowing families to enjoy quality time together. It’s a wonderful opportunity to reconnect and recharge.

Thank you for your attention to this important matter. If you have any questions or need further assistance, please do not hesitate to reach out.
