Chloe Pollack, DC Principal from August onwards, visits for handover

The College was delighted to welcome Chloe Pollack for a series of handover meetings with current Principal James Smith and other senior leaders over the course of this week. Discussions included the College’s context and history, key strategic and operational matters, and how the College can continue to meet the educational needs of students and the aspirations of the wider community. We are very grateful to Chloe for giving this time to help prepare for her new role, and look forward to welcoming her in August!

Election of Parent Member of the College Council

The purpose of the Discovery College Council is to help the College provide the best possible education for its students. Council members undertake their roles on a voluntary basis and are prepared to share their knowledge, skills and experience for the good of the College as a whole. The guidance offered and decisions made form part of the framework within which our teachers work.

We write to give notice of the election of a Parent Member to a vacancy on the Discovery College Council. This vacancy arises because the previous member, Pushkar Sane, has finished his final term on Council. He has served with distinction over many years and we extend our thanks to him for all his contributions.

The term of office of School Council members is three years. Any parent of a student

attending Discovery College, who is not an employee of ESF, is eligible to stand for

election to the School Council.

Should you wish to nominate yourself for election please complete the nomination form, which is downloadable here. You are invited to prepare a brief personal statement (no more than 300 words) setting out your relevant experience and stating what you would hope to contribute to the Council and the College (download the personal statement form here). A copy of any personal statement received will be sent to all parents of students attending Discovery College in the event that an election is needed (see below). Please note that all personal data received will be processed only as necessary and in accordance with ESF’s personal data handling policy available on the ESF website. Completed nomination forms, together with the optional personal statement, should be scanned and emailed to karen.shum@dc.edu.hk, or a physical copy handed into College Reception in a sealed envelope marked for the attention of Karen Shum. The last date for the receipt of nomination forms and optional personal statement is Friday, 23 May 2025.

In the event that two or more nominations are received, an election will be held - in this eventuality, details of how to participate will be shared with all parents in due course. If one nomination is received, the need for an election will be dispensed with and the candidate will be elected unopposed.

For an informal discussion about what being a member of the College Council involves, parents are welcome to contact the Principal via james.smith@dc.edu.hk.

Year 4 trip to Hong Kong Palace Museum

On Friday 16 May, our Year 4 students embarked on an exciting cultural adventure at the Hong Kong Palace Museum. They explored fascinating exhibits featuring ancient Chinese art, imperial treasures, and historical artifacts—bringing their classroom learning to life.

Guided by their activity booklets, the students uncovered captivating stories about emperors, traditional craftsmanship, and China’s rich heritage as they wandered through the galleries. They also enjoyed hands-on activities, from designing their own porcelain to stamping Foodie Hunt cards and even "joining" a lively dim sum banquet!

It was wonderful to see the students’ curiosity, enthusiasm, and engagement throughout the trip. This immersive experience deepened their appreciation of history in a truly memorable way.

Mini University Fair a success!

Our senior students had the opportunity to interact with university representtives and current students from a number of leading HK higher education institutions at our mini-university fair on Tuesday.

The theatre foyer was buzzing with enthusiasm and excitement as students asked thoughtful questions and gained valuable insight into student life from both an academic and social perspective. The feedback from students and university repsresentatives alike has been very positive and we are already looking forward to running the event again next year.

Personal Project Exhibition Invitation

Year 11 students are thrilled to showcase their MYP personal projects, resulting from months of hard work, skill application, and exploration of diverse topics. They are eager to present their final products and share the knowledge they've gained with the entire school community.

On behalf of the Class of 2027, we warmly invite you to this year's Personal Project Exhibition at Discovery College on 19 May from 10:10 to 18:00pm, in the Theatre on the ground floor.

This year, the chosen theme for their exhibition is “Netflix”.

"We chose this theme because television plays a big role in our modern lives. It helps us relax and offers a variety of movies and shows that evoke different emotions. The different genres we enjoy highlight our individuality and unique interests as viewers. This diversity is reflected in our personal project topics, where visitors will be able to explore various genres of TV, organized according to our chosen global contexts".

The exhibition features a broad array of subjects, including science, cooking, arts, and many more.

The class of 2027 is looking forward to presenting their Personal Project experience and learning journey with all of you on May 19, 2025, from 10:10-18:00pm.

We look forward to seeing you there!
