Primary Sports Day 2025

It was wonderful to see such a large number of parents and carers at this year’s Primary Sports Day, who supported and encouraged the students. Thank you for adding to an electric atmosphere and celebrating student participation and success. Thank you, also, to the staff for the organisation and high energy in the sun, with a special mention to Mr Trimmingham (Mr T), who masterminded the day.

A core outcome of the event is the the spirit of teamwork and belonging to Houses which is enhanced through friendly competition. The results of the day will be shared with the students in due course, and added to the overall House Championship.

Congratulations to all the students for being courageous and showing perseverance in both the individual and team events. Students demonstrated humility and respect, enjoying not only their efforts but also the achievements of their peers.

Ensemble Evening - A Night of Musical Collaboration

On Tuesday, March 18, Discovery College music department hosted an unforgettable Ensemble Evening. The event drew a capacity crowd, eager to celebrate the commitment of our young students and music staff participating in our ensemble program here at DC. The evening featured performances from the Chamber Orchestra, Secondary Choir, Cobra Choir, and the DC Stage Band. Each group brought its unique flair to the stage performing diverse repertoire which included a combined piece with over 100 students on stage making it a truly brilliant night of music.

One of the most heartwarming aspects of the evening was seeing the collaboration across different age groups, students as young as Year 4 right up to Year 13 sharing the stage. Performance opportunities like these are not only instilling commitment, collaboration, both mental and physical challenges as students master their instruments but also helps us build a community for our young musicians. It has been wonderful to see our students build friendships and share the joy of making music together while participating in an ensemble.

The music department would also like to thank our Year 13 ensemble members for their continued contribution and to also sadly say farewell. These are Edward Zheng, Patrick Xin, Iyana Pavri, Alex McKenzie and our two Y13 music scholarship students Krish Bhandari and Rayming Lan. All the best in the future and we hope music remains an important part of your lives.

Thank you to everyone who attended and supported our young musicians including parents and care givers. Your enthusiasm and encouragement makes a huge difference in their musical journeys.

2025 Diploma Visual Arts Exhibition

The Class of 2025 Diploma Visual Arts exhibition opening night was a great success, with a fantastic turnout! We are grateful to the students, parents, teachers, and leadership team for their support of the event. The evening showcased incredible artwork that was both technically and conceptually outstanding.

We are immensely proud of our 21 Year 13 artists for their talent and dedication. Each artist shared their unique story and artistic journey through their work.

The exhibition will remain open until March 26 during school hours.

Green Cobras Fundraiser for Eco-Drive HK

The Green Cobras recently held a successful fundraiser for Eco-Drive HK, a female-led non-profit organisation that aims to reduce plastic consumption in Hong Kong. Through this event, with the contributions we have received from both Secondary and Primary, we managed to raise HKD 991.47 in total. Thank you to all the fantastic artists who designed original artwork for our pins and stickers.

On March 10 March, we managed to invite members of Eco-Drive to present to Year 6 students to help spread awareness of HK's significant environmental issues. This presentation offered important insights, emphasizing the shocking quantity of single-use plastic thrown away each day and its effects on our community, both socially and environmentally. The students demonstrated great enthusiasm and engagement during the presentation, showing a keen interest in the problems of single-use plastic and plastic pollution, and learning how to become aware and take action on these issues.

Furthermore, many Year 6 students have expressed interest in participating in beach clean-ups and making their own changes to reduce their single-use plastic consumption in their daily lives.

We are extremely grateful for this opportunity, which allowed students to be more open-minded and conscious of other solutions to single-use plastic besides recycling.

As a school based in Discovery Bay, our students are privileged to study in one of the cleanest places in Hong Kong. After understanding how much waste accumulates on other islands, we want to spread awareness of this issue, make Hong Kong a cleaner place to live, and further help our planet grow and flourish so that we can be healthy and live long.

Year 11 Food Design Field Trip

Year 11 Food Design students recently visited Dbrasserie in South Plaza, Discovery Bay. Chef Meeta generously shared her expertise on vegan flavor development, ingredient selection, and dish design.

Students sampled diverse dishes, sparking creative ideas for their "Veg Out" unit. Meeta’s insights into flavor combinations and ingredient choices provided an invaluable real-world perspective on plant-based innovation. The interactive Q&A session deepened student understanding. Students are now eager to design and create their own plant based dishes.

Year 5 & 6 Girls Football

On Tuesday afternoon, our school hosted a friendly football tournament between the Year 5 and 6 Girls Football teams from Discovery College and DBIS. The event brought together students, teachers, and families in a spirit of sportsmanship and fun.

The matches, coached by our talented student leaders from the Under 16 Girls football team, showcased impressive skills and teamwork. Each game was filled with exciting moments and cheering fans, highlighting the joy of friendly competition.

Beyond the scores, the tournament celebrated camaraderie, as players congratulated each other and built new and existing friendships within our community.

Swap & Shop Fashion Show

The Swap&Shop team is thrilled to announce and invite you to DC’s first-ever upcycled fashion show on 25 April 2025.

Swap&Shop was founded by four Y12 students at Discovery College. We started our project by organising a clothing drive, collecting over 400 articles of clothing, thanks to members of the DC and DB community. From here, our student designers have worked incredibly hard to transform these preloved garments into trendy, one-of-a-kind pieces you won't want to miss!

We are honoured to partner with Redress Hong Kong, a local NGO committed to educating and empowering designers and consumers, working towards reducing the negative impacts of textile waste and transitioning to a more circular fashion industry since 2007. Attendees can listen to their inspiring “Get Redressed” talk in person at the show. Aligning perfectly with the principal goal of Swap&Shop, we aim to promote responsible consumer and producer choices through sustainable practices and highlighting how simple it is to upcycle and restyle old clothes. All earnings will be donated to support Redress Hong Kong.

Mark your calendars and join us on 25 April 2025, from 17:00 to 19:00 (doors open at 16:45) at ESF Discovery College G/F Theatre, as we highlight the importance of textile sustainability as a community, and to celebrate the dedication of our talented student designers and models.

Tickets are on sale now! Purchase yours today for $80HKD - Upper Seats / $100HKD - Floor Seats on Eventbrite with live music and light refreshments included. We would love for you to be part of Swap&Shop’s final show and to make a positive impact within our local community together!

Deadline for Student Withdrawal

Parents are reminded that Wednesday, 30 April 2025 is the deadline for informing the College of the withdrawal of a student who will not be returning in August 2025.

Parents who wish to withdraw their child from Discovery College are required to submit a Student Withdrawal Form via the ESF App*. The online Student Withdrawal form is the ONLY official way for parents to inform Discovery College of their children leaving the school.

All current DC students paid a two-month deposit upon entry to the College. The first half of this deposit was offset against the first month’s fees while the remaining half is credited against the fees for the last month of enrolment, subject to a two-month advance notice of withdrawal. In order to ensure the utilisation of the remaining half of the deposit as payment for the last month of enrolment, e.g. June 2025 (the end of this academic year) if the student is not returning in August 2025, notification is required no later than Wednesday 30 April 2025. Please note that any subsequent change of the last date of attendance or cancellation of the withdrawal may be declined.

As soon as the online Student Withdrawal form is received, Discovery College will offer an admission assessment/interview for the year group in question to applicants on the relevant waiting list who, if successful at assessment/interview, will be offered the current student’s place to start after the last date of attendance as per the Student Withdrawal Notice.

Enquiries regarding student withdrawal can be addressed to our Admissions Department at admissions@dc.edu.hk

Current Year 13 students graduating at the end of the current 2024-25 academic year do not have to submit the Student Withdrawal form.
