We are excited to share a number of exciting subject selection opportunities are on the horizon for our Year 11 students. As your child begins to look ahead to the International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Programme, we want to ensure you have all the information you need before key decision dates arrive.

This year, we are especially pleased to highlight several subjects available for consideration, including:

• Computer Science

With our commitment to enhancing the curriculum, we are excited to announce the introduction of Computer Science into our IB Diploma Programme course offerings. This future-focused subject equips students with problem-solving, critical thinking, and analytical skills whilst  encouraging innovation. This subject choice not only complements other areas of study but also helps students develop technological fluency and adaptability—key skills for success in an ever-evolving global landscape while providing a strong foundation for a wide range of higher-education pathways and career opportunities. • Language & Culture

We will share details about how the Language and Culture course may suit your child’s subject portfolio in the DP. We will explain how this interdisciplinary course will suit a variety of subject combinations and is offered as an alternative to studying a Language Acquisition subject, complementing both humanities and language pathways. 

To provide more details about these subject offerings and how they may support and broaden your child’s academic pathway, we warmly invite all Year 11 parents to attend our upcoming IB DP Computer Science/Language and Culture Webinar on Wednesday, 7 January 2025 at 6:30pm.

Join members of our Secondary Leadership Team and the HEO team as they share insights into these subjects, outline the selection process, and discuss how these choices align with the Diploma Programme and university pathways.

Enrolment for Term 2 CCAs are now open. Please complete your enrolment by 10am Friday, 5 December.

The CCA Handbook 2025-26 contains an overview of the CCAs for this academic year. In the handbook, you will find our CCA calendar, a schedule for each year group and enrolment instructions. 

Co-curricular activities that will open for enrolment are:

• Primary Cobra Sports 

• General CCAs

• Student-led CCAs 

*Secondary Cobra Sports are now on Ding! for students to enrol for Season 2.

Term 2 CCA dates:         

Monday, 12 January 2026 - CCAs commence 

Friday, 20 March 2026 - CCAs end

To enrol into activities:

• For Primary students, parents complete enrolment directly via the Ding VLE found in the ESF Parent App.
• For Secondary, students select activity enrolment in Ding! and parents are required to "approve" their child’s enrolment in the Ding VLE found in the ESF Parent App.

**IMPORTANT** Enroling for a CCA does not guarantee a place in the activity. The status "Allocated" next to an activity name only acknowledges your application; it is not a confirmation of an available place in the CCA.

Students who are enroled and accepted into a CCA will receive acceptance confirmation from the CCA Team. Due to the high demand for CCAs, we ask for your patience while waiting for a response. Enrolment will remain open for activities which have availability throughout the term.

Don't get distracted by the dazzling vocals and high-kicking choruses, we need to keep ourselves safe from the plants! DC’s secondary school production Little Shop of Horrors is all about bringing the ups and downs, grit and dark humor of Skid Row to life! As ensemble members, we can tell you that the journey from the first rehearsal to opening night has been just as thrilling and sometimes as chaotic as the show itself.

One of the coolest things about doing this show at an international school is the sheer diversity of our cast. We have students from all year groups, representing over a dozen nationalities, all working together to create a tiny, run-down corner of 1960s America feel alive. But the ensemble is essentially the heartbeat of Skid Row, we’re the gossips, the wino's, the passersby, and the chorus that keeps the energy pumping for the heart of Skid Row.

Rehearsals are intense. We’re not just mastering complex harmonies that make the music so infectious, and nailing sharp choreography that turns the stage into a fast-paced, urban environment. It takes serious focus, but when we finally hit that perfect note during “Skid Row (Downtown),” the whole room just lights up. It’s a true testament to the teamwork that binds our international community together.

While our leads are incredible, the real technical star of this show is, without a doubt, Audrey II, the blood-thirsty plant. Getting this character right has been a massive challenge for our entire production team. Watching the team design, build, paint, and rehearse the massive puppets is like having a masterclass in theatre tech in rehearsals. And for us in the ensemble, we have to perform with the plant in mind, whether it's being an extension of its evergrowing vines, or being civilians petrified in fear, we've spent hours perfecting our panic, our curiosity, and our desperate hope as the plant grows bigger, and the chance to escape Skid Row becomes that much closer. It’s a hilarious challenge to balance the sci-fi absurdity with the genuine emotions of the story.

Why You Can’t Miss It

Little Shop of Horrors is more than just a musical, it's an exciting tale about ambition, greed, love and the price of fame all wrapped up in a performance that will keep you on the edge of your seat!

The hard work, the lunchtimes and late afternoons, the countless runs of " Git it (Feed Me)" it's all worth it because we know we are creating something truly special and entertaining. We can’t wait to share the incredible results of our collective effort with you, as it truly will be two nights to remember!

So, please, join us on Skid Row, in a quaint flower shop around the corner. Come for the great music, the laughs, and to see our student body shine. But whatever you do, remember: don't feed the plants!

This year's Book Week will be held from Tuesday, 9 December to Friday, 12 December, under the theme “Symphony of Stories”. We have many exciting activities planned across the school, all celebrating our love of reading. 

The Multilingual Bazaar is a special event that enhances literacy while highlighting the multi-cultural language environment of our college. We are looking for parent volunteers. All you need to do is bring your childhood favourite book in your native language, read it, and translate it to a group of primary children. The reading will take place on Tuesday, 9 December 2025, in the library between 12.15 -1:10pm.

Join Ms Blomfield and Mr Man for an informative higher education webinar for parents of students in Year 11 to Year 13, on 4 December (12:00 - 1:00pm) where they'll cover important topics specific to each year group:

Year 13 focus: Reviewing progress, timelines, responding to uni offers, and decision-making factors.

Year 12 focus: Understanding what students are doing now in terms of research and what lies ahead in their HE journey.

Year 11 focus: Exploring the importance of IB subject selection, its impact on university admissions, and the significance of work experience.

Jaylen (Year 2) achieved a Silver award in the Group of Male Individual Mandarin Speech (Grade 1 & Grade 2) at the 77th Hong Kong Schools Music and Speech Association held last month, with a captivating performance of the piece《哪有我的泡沫多》originally written by the author 韦娅. This yearly festival brings together students from across Hong Kong to showcase their talents in music and speech. Jaylen's success is a testament to his dedication and we are so proud of this acheivement.

We would also like to thank our teachers at DC for their guidance and for encouraging the love of learning in our students.

As part of our ongoing commitment to supporting effective learning conditions and community building, we would like to remind you of the expectations of all students in relation to mobile device use during the school day, specifically, mobile phones and laptops.

Mobile Device Expectations:

1. Students are required to power off their mobile phones and store them in their school bags prior to entry and until departure from the school campus at the end of the day (3.30pm), with the following exception: Students may pay for food in the cafeteria if they only have a digital octopus on their phone. After completing their purchase, the phone must be powered off, and placed back in their bag. 

2. Students are permitted to use their laptops only as a learning tool when instructed to do so by their teacher. 

3. To help each student stay focused during each lesson, they are required to have only one browser window open on their laptops, and it must be relevant to the learning taking place at the time. 

Parent-Student communication during the school day. 

If you need to communicate with your child during the school day, please call or email the front office, and the message will then be relayed to them. Similarly, if a student needs to contact you, they can do so through the front office. We understand that this approach may differ from what you are accustomed to, and we appreciate your understanding as we implement this change. These steps are a key part of our broader strategy to create the best possible learning environment, free from unnecessary disruptions.

Please note that direct messages to a student's phone will not be received until the end of the school day. 

We would be grateful for your support in having a conversation with your child about the expectations above, and to help them plan their day without the need to use their mobile phone whilst on the school campus. Should you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact your child's Learning Advisor in the first instance.
