PYP Exhibition: A Celebration of Learning and Action

In the final year of each of the IB programmes, the students undertake a special project to demonstrate their understanding of all of the components of that programme. The PYP Exhibition is the culminating project of the Primary Years Programme (PYP). The Exhibition is an extended unit of inquiry that is completely student-driven. The students consider many issues in the world and settle upon one they would like to learn more about. They research into that topic and then, empowered with new found knowledge, decide upon ways of taking action in order to make a difference in the world. It is hoped that this action becomes sustainable and not just something that happens during the Exhibition process. As well as action, students demonstrate each of the Learner Profile attributes as well as the Approaches to Learning skills.

This week saw Discovery College Year 6 students present their showcases to parents and students. During the Exhibition showcase, the students talked about their learning from throughout the unit. The focus was on explaining the process they undertook in deciding upon the topic of interest, writing questions to guide their learning, researching through interviewing experts in the field of their research, through online sources (including AI), through books and other sources of information. Each group then explained the action they took and the impact they hoped they made. We are all extremely proud of all the students. It gives us all great confidence in knowing that the future world is in the hands of such deep thinkers and very caring human beings.

Ensemble Evening brought the House down!

Our recent Ensemble Evening was an absolute triumph, and we want to extend a massive thank you to our wonderful Discovery College community for coming along to support our young musicians. The theatre was completely packed, creating such a great atmosphere for the performers.

Our talented students treated us to an incredible, genre-spanning musical journey including classical, pop, jazz, Motown, Soul, and traditional music. The sheer variety and skill on display were a testament to our students' immense dedication. We heard from the DC Chamber Orchestra, Secondary Choir, Cobra Choir and our Stage Band.

This concert concludes our ensemble season, but don’t worry all ensembles will resume rehearsals starting in September next academic year and we are looking forward to our wonderful musicians returning but also to welcome new players and singers so keep an eye out for the advertisements in August!

Save the Date: DC Musicians of the Year

If you missed out, or simply want to experience the magic all over again, you are in luck! Our next major musical event is just around the corner:

Date: Thursday, June 4

Time: Primary concert 13:30pm and Secondary concert 6:00pm

Location: DC Theatre

Come and support our finest soloists as they showcase their extraordinary talents. Thank you again for supporting the arts at DC, and we look forward to seeing you there!

DC hosts Battle of the Books Competition

The Battle of the Books is an exciting team competition that challenges students to read a selection of 20 books and work collaboratively to answer detailed questions. On 20 May, Discovery College proudly hosted the event, bringing together five schools to compete across 10 intense rounds. The day opened with Ms. Pollock welcoming the participants and praising the immense dedication required to read and master all 20 books.

We are incredibly proud of our DC Secondary Team, which consisted of:

Erin, Adhvika, Celestine, Sophia, Brown, Paola, Melody, Kate , Liya, Anika, Chloe and Vivian.

After a thrilling day of competition, DC came second. It was wonderful to see our students pay such close attention to the authors' work and demonstrate fantastic sportsmanship.

A huge thank you to Mrs. Garnett for the hard work moderating the event, to Ms Lam for her organisation and preparation for the day, and to everyone who supports our readers.

U11 Boys Basketball Cobra Team Battles hard at Stamford School

Our U11 boys basketball team took on Stamford School in a full-court game on Tuesday. While the scoreboard didn't go our way, their coaches were so happy with the team's grit, teamwork, determination and hard work on the court. Most importantly, the boys had fun competing together.

Thanks to everyone who came to cheer them on.

Yearbook 2025-26 coming soon!

We are excited to announce that the Yearbook for 2025-26 is in progress and will soon be ready.

The Yearbook is a hard-bound book of approximately 200 pages which contains each class photo as well as highlights from numerous events throughout the year, including Cobra sports teams, House competitions, music performances, drama productions, camps, trips, and many other College activities. It is a wonderful way to remember the year.

Details on how to place your orders will be shared early next week via app message. Orders will open next week, and this will be available via the Reply slip on the ESF Ding App.

Please note that payments will be processed through the ESF payment system; cash and cheques will not be accepted. Yearbook payment is non-refundable. To help reduce waste and our carbon footprint, the College will print Yearbooks based on the number of orders received by the deadline. We regret that we are unable to accomodate late orders.
