We are excited to introduce the MYP Year 7 transition programme on Friday, 30 May —a unique opportunity for our students to experience a taste of the Middle Years Programme (MYP). This brief but impactful programme allows students to engage with selected subjects, providing them with a glimpse into what the MYP is all about. We kindly ask all Y6 parents to come to the Theatre for the Parent Information Session (8:30am start and it will finish by 9:30am, where there will be some light refreshments available).
What to Expect
During this transition day, students will have the chance to experience engaging activities in Design, Sciences, and the Arts through hands-on experiences that emphasise collaboration and critical thinking.
Exploring Music Composition: Students will learn about composition and how to use the building blocks of music to communicate characterisation, emotions, and themes of time and place. They will also develop critical listening skills to draw their own conclusions about what the music is conveying.
Engaging in Design: In a fun and interactive "Hat Mania" project, students will work in teams to design and prototype hats tailored to specific user needs. This activity fosters teamwork and introduces essential design thinking skills.
Investigating in Individuals and Societies: Students will learn some basic skills of source analysis and triangulation. They will also get to practice identifying key information in a text, laying the foundational skills needed for success in the MYP Individuals and Societies course.
Experimenting in Science: Students will learn how changing the independent variable (the combination of Alka-Seltzer and water) affects the dependent variable (the distance the rocket travels).
Why this is Important
The MYP Year 7 transition programme is an important introduction to the MYP, providing students with a snapshot of the dynamic learning environment they can expect in the coming year. This experience is designed to build their excitement and develop a sense of curiosity about the MYP.
We encourage parents to discuss these upcoming activities with their children, instilling a sense of enthusiasm about the transition to the MYP.
We are also looking forward to meeting parents on 30 May for a brief introduction to the MYP. During this time, parents will have the opportunity to learn more about the MYP, while students participate in the transition programme. We encourage parents to join us for this informative session to better understand the exciting journey your children are about to embark on.
