The final day of term was filled with smiles, colour and community spirit as we celebrated Fun Friday with a focus on the Easter Holidays.

The day began with members of our Student Council greeting students at the gates, dressed as exuberant Easter bunnies. Their cheerful welcome set a festive tone and reminded everyone that school is about more than lessons: it’s about belonging and shared moments.

Thanks to the generous support of the PTA, we ran an easter egg hunt, which served as the final ever house event for our Year 13s. Working alongside our youngest learners from Year 1, the Year 13 students teamed up to gather eggs in their house colours. Watching our oldest and youngest pupils collaborate — laughing, helping and cheering one another on — was a proud reminder of what makes DC special: we are a through‑train school, supporting children from age 4 all the way to 18. 

At lunchtime the PTA hosted a popular craft activity. Students enjoyed hands-on creativity, making Easter-themed crafts to take home. It was a calm, happy space where students of all ages could relax, chat and be creative, with guidance from our teachers and parents — exactly the kind of community moment we cherish.

We finished the day with a lively student-led assembly that celebrated achievements from across the College. The programme included music, dance and many, many bad jokes, as well as celebrations of our sporting, artistics and academic achievements this term.

We are thrilled to share the preliminary details for the No Boundaries (NB) 2026-27 programme.

Programme Dates

9 - 13 November (for Hong Kong-based programmes)

7 - 13 November (for Beyond Hong Kong programmes)

Building on the successes of this academic year, the upcoming programme features expanded experiences in China and strategic enhancements to the experiential learning continuum for students in Years 3-12.

The NB programme is designed to foster sustainable partnerships and meaningful engagement between the DC community and our identified community partners, leading to powerful development work and positive impact. 

Programme Offerings by Year Group

• Years 3-7 (Current Years 2-6): Focused on a "camps continuum" to develop resilience, leadership, and independence. We are currently finalising these Hong Kong-based experiences and will share more details soon.
• Years 8-9 (Current Years 7-8): Students will transition from local camps to experiences in Hong Kong, Guilin, Chengdu, and Taiwan. These opportunities are designed to deepen appreciation for the host country, Chinese language, and diverse cultures.
• Years 10-12 (Current Years 9-11): Students may engage in projects in Hong Kong or further afield, including Taiwan, Thailand, Vietnam, Cambodia, and Malaysia. These experiences centre on community partnership and service through research.

Hong Kong-based Programme: We offer local experiences in partnership with NGOs based in Hong Kong. These include a balance of conservation, adventure, and community service through day programmes.

Flight Costs and Oil Price Volatility

For the Beyond Hong Kong-based Programme, we work with various airlines to secure transport to various locations. Due to oil price volatility, we have included a 25% flight cost buffer on top of the current ticket price. There is no way to predict the duration or extent of oil price inflation or its impact on fuel surcharges at the time of booking; however, we will continue to work with our travel partners to secure the best pricing available. 

Should there be any unanticipated flight cost adjustments beyond the published NB programme cost at the point of booking, this will be communicated to parents prior to confirming seats. The second instalment payment will be adjusted accordingly in line with actual costs.

NB Expo: Current Year 7 to Year 11 students will attend the No Boundaries Expo during Discovery Time (tentatively scheduled between 13 April and 21 April). This event will feature presentations about the programmes.

A few photos from last year's No Boundaries Week....

The past few weeks have seen scores of Secondary students preparing for Wednesday’s Interhouse Dance Competition and on Wednesday afternoon the energy exploded into action with music, colour and movement as over 100 students and staff performed.

Every song and every dance move was choreographed by our student leaders, as they took full responsibility for bringing each house’s vision to life. Their hard work and collaboration were a wonderful example of leadership in action and a credit to the dedication of everyone involved.

The final performances were dazzling. Each house brought uniquely expressive pieces that reflected the rich cultural diversity of our school community: traditional steps and contemporary moves, rhythmic group work and expressive solos, colourful costumes and imaginative staging, and we even had Ms Mitchell breakdancing!

The judging was tight. After a tense deliberation the panel awarded the trophy to Red House by a narrow margin. As well as earning House points, Red House performed their routine again for the whole school at today’s End of term assembly, giving everyone a chance to celebrate their achievement.

We now look forward to our Primary House Dance later this year, where we’ll see even more creativity and enthusiasm from younger students. Congratulations to all houses for taking part and making this year’s competition such a vibrant, inspiring occasion.

Last Thursday, our Year 1 learning space was transformed into a thriving ecosystem of discovery for our Celebration of Learning.

The atmosphere was electric, buzzing with excitement as the children took the lead, guiding their families through a hands-on showcase of their inquiry into how plants and minibeasts play an essential role in our world. Families explored constructed minibeast models and carefully designed Bog Baby habitats, engaged in digital and scientific research using PebbleGo and microscopes, and admired stunning pieces of art created from materials found in the natural world. Together, these experiences highlighted the children’s understanding of the vital interdependence between flora and fauna.

The Year 1 Bee Café was also open for business, where families admired our lush variety of plants and planted new seeds to nurture over the upcoming holidays. To our amazement, the single potato planted weeks ago had worked its magic under the soil, producing a whole family of baby potatoes! We were even joined by a special guest, a common garden katydid that flew in just before the doors opened, giving the children a perfect opportunity for some real-time scientific observation.

Our Year 5 Celebration of Learning yesterday was a wonderful opportunity for families to share in the children’s poetry journey. The children proudly showcased their poems, speaking about the language techniques they have been exploring and the inspirations behind their writing. Some of the poetic devices used were personification, alliteration, and similes and metaphors, which enabled rich poems to be written and shared.

Over the past month, our Year 11 students have been exploring key concepts in environmental science, including ecosystems, biodiversity, the roles of different species within complex systems, and the threats to biodiversity posed by anthropogenic activities. They have also examined how connections between communities can influence conservation outcomes.

Working with the local Hong Kong NGO Lumivoce, students selected a threatened species and developed a specific conservation strategy to help protect it. During workshop sessions, Lumivoce provided feedback on their ideas and guided students in identifying key stakeholders and target audiences for their strategies.

This week, the Year 11 students presented their projects to Year 6 in two interactive sessions. The Year 6 students were enthusiastic and thoughtful audience members, gaining not only new scientific knowledge but also inspiration for their own upcoming Year 6 presentations.

It was an absolute privilege to welcome the multi-talented SuRie to Discovery College this Thursday. Hailing from the UK, SuRie brought her vast expertise as a professional composer, songwriter, vocalist, and musical theatre actor to our studios, sparking a wave of creative energy across our music department.

The day kicked off with a high-energy choral workshop involving vocalists from Y7-13 and our secondary choir. SuRie demonstrated the true power and enjoyment of collective singing, teaching the group a brand new song with up to four part harmonies.

The creativity continued in a dynamic composition workshop. Working with our young musicians, SuRie guided them through the collaborative process of composing and songwriting in small groups. It was inspiring to watch students brainstorm the topic of nostalgia which they came up with themselves, craft original lyrics, and develop thematic ideas. The students then really enjoyed sharing their musical seeds with each other. 

To wrap up the visit, SuRie hosted an intimate Q&A session. She offered a candid look into the life of a creative professional, sharing the rewards and satisfaction alongside the challenges of the industry. Our students walked away with invaluable advice on navigating a career in the arts.

This was a truly transformative experience for our budding composers and performers. We are incredibly grateful to SuRie for her generosity and for reminding us all of the magic that happens when we create together. We are also proud to say she loved working with our young musicians and spoke so highly of the creativity, courage and connection our students have here at Discovery College so well done to all the participants. DC students crowned Champions at the ESF x LUSH Business Competition Champions

We are thrilled to announce that Discovery College took home the top prize in the ESF LUSH Naked Marketing Competition! In September, 15 teams from across various ESF schools entered the challenge to design an innovative advertising campaign for LUSH’s eco-friendly "Naked" line. After two rounds of business strategy and campaign design, our Year 11 team, Jaydon, Joowon, Arsh, Hugh, and Chicco, advanced to the Grand Final at West Island School on Thursday, 26 March.

Competing against four other ESF schools, the team delivered a masterclass in professional pitching. Based around Lush's business values, their campaign focused on creating memorable moments for Gen Z consumers while expertly balancing sustainability, financial projections, and creative advertising. The panel of LUSH officials was highly impressed by the team's charisma and professional delivery. After a tense deliberation, Discovery College was crowned the well-deserved champions! In addition to some great LUSH prizes, the team gained invaluable industry experience and a certificate of recognition.

Huge congratulations to these budding entrepreneurs for representing DC so impeccably!

DC Students Participate in Annual ESF Design Day

On 25 March, our Year 11 Design students stepped out of the classroom and into the professional world at the annual ESF Design Day, hosted at Sha Tin College. Joining 140 peers from across the ESF network, our students spent the day immersed in the fast-evolving world of modern design.

Learning from the Pros
The day was packed with hands-on sessions led by industry professionals. Students had the opportunity to dive deep in a number of specialist workshops, for example:

• The Digital Edge: Mastering design through coding microcontrollers.
• The Fundamentals: Refining professional product design and architectural sketching techniques.
• Physical Creation: Building intricate models and 3D sculptures to bring 2D ideas to life.

Beyond the "how-to," students attended seminars on the cutting edge of industry, including rapid prototyping and the latest architectural technologies. They also gained rare "behind-the-scenes" insights into the daily lives of designers, helping them visualise what a career in this creative field actually looks like.

Designing with the Community
We are also incredibly proud of our own Discovery College Design Department. Ms O’Connor and Mr Lee contributed their expertise by hosting a featured workshop on Community Engagement.

They challenged students to rethink the designer's role—moving away from simply "designing for" a user and instead "designing with" the community. This empathy-led approach teaches our students that the best design solutions come from listening to and collaborating with the people who will actually use them.

Why This Matters
As these students prepare for their final years of secondary school, exposure to professional mentors and high-level tech is invaluable. They didn't just learn new skills; they saw how their classroom projects translate into real-world impact.

Year 6 Student earns Second place at the 78th Hong Kong Schools Music Festival

We are delighted to share that Madeleine (Year 6 student) was awarded Second place in the Piano Solo Grade-Four competition held at the 78th Hong Kong Schools Music Festival. This is a remarkable achievement, and we are so proud of her dedication, talent, and hard work. 

Year 3 Student Shines in the Hong Kong Young Writers Award

Congratulations to our Year 3 student Shayne, for being selected as a competitive writer in the 2026 Hong Kong Young Writers Award for his Chinese poetry submission under the theme "New Tales of China's Silk Road." We’re proud of Shayne’s creativity and dedication, a bright start to what promises to be an exciting creative journey. Well done for representing our school so brilliantly!

A heartfelt thank-you to his Chinese teacher, Ms Wang, whose encouragement and mentorship helped nurture Shayne’s talent and confidence.
