DC Celebrates Halloween

Today, the spirit of Halloween filled the halls of Discovery College, creating a fun and unforgettable atmosphere for students and staff alike. As students arrived, they were greeted by a Ms Darling sized Labubu, some K-pop demon hunters that closely resembled the College Leadership Team and many others, who - with big smiles and a lively halloween music playlist - helped set the tone for the day.

Lunchtime was a highlight, thanks to our dedicated PTA, who hosted an engaging craft activity. Students had the chance to unleash their creativity, crafting bags ahead of their trick or treating this weekend. The excitement continued with a fun costume catwalk led by our Student Council. Students proudly showcased their imaginative costumes, celebrating their individuality and creativity in front of their peers.

We are very grateful to those who played their part in bringing us together today - happy halloween!

Congratulations to the DC Cobras U20 football team on their fantastic start to the season! Winning their group in their debut HKSSF league season with a 100% win record, scoring 32 goals while conceding only 3, is a testament to the team's hard work, skill, and determination.

Special shoutout to Kai and Xander for their leadership as captains, as well as to the entire squad from Y10-Y13 for their contribution to this early-season success. Best of luck in the quarter-finals after No Boundaries week—keep the momentum going and make us proud!

Well done team!

Parents learn more about the Library

We welcomed our parents into the school Library yesterday to learn more about the wonderful services and books available to all.

These services included how to access books online, how to check borrower records and book availability on the school Oliver system and signing up to become a parent borrower in order to borrow 10 extra books a week. Parents also browsed the collections to see what is available to our students.

Our Library is open Monday - Thursday 8:00-4:30pm with parents welcomed before and after the school lesson times. Why not drop in and explore for yourselves!

The Little Shop of Horrors: A Spotlight on our Percussionists

The thrilling score of this year's musical production, Little Shop of Horrors, is brought to life by a talented and enthusiastic cast, crew and musicians, but let's shine a light on the incredible percussion section! Though they'll be tucked away unseen, their impact will definitely be noticed.

Meet our team of percussionists,  Emma (Year 10) and Austen  (Year 7), two talented musicians who seamlessly navigate a vast array of instruments that you need to shake, scrape or hit to make music!

Why did you choose to learn Percussion?

"I used to learn piano and I enjoyed it but when I was in kindergarten, I had a chance to play some percussion instruments and really enjoyed it and I started learning percussion" - Austen

"My parents wanted me to be more diverse in sports and music so they chose percussion because it looked cool [laughs], it is challenging because you have to move around a lot, playing many different instruments like drums and mallet instruments!” - Emma

What do you enjoy most about playing?

“How everything is changing and one person has to play so many instruments and it is unique” - Austen

These musicians play everything from a variety of types of drums hit with sticks and mallets like concert toms and bass drums, hand drums as well as suspended or crash cymbals. They also are responsible for playing melodies and harmony on mallet instruments and tuned percussion including the xylophone, marimba and timpani using up to 4 mallets!

Their work in the orchestra is essential. They not only reinforce the rhythm and add power to climaxes in the music but also double the melody adding a unique texture. Their diverse sounds add colour, elevate emotion and help bring the story to life!

We invite everyone in our school community to come and enjoy Little Shop of Horrors on 3 and 4 December the DC Performing Arts Theatre. While you won't be able to see Emma and Austen dashing back and forth from instrument to instrument, we encourage you to listen carefully for the colour, shimmer and power they bring to the show.

Family Fun Day: Snowglobe Experience

We are delighted to announce that, due to popular demand, the life-size snowglobe experience will be back at this year’s DC PTA Family Fun Day! Join us on 6 December, from 12:00 - 4:00pm for a magical time inside the snowglobe.

Don’t miss out on the fun and the chance to create unforgettable memories. We can’t wait to see you there!
