Once again this year, we are excited to be supporting the annual Box of Hope Drive, and we are asking for. your help.

Students in Year 3 were visited by Box of Hope CEO, Lisa Beattie, and the school volunteer, Fiona O'Donell on Monday. Lisa shared an overview of the organisation and the systems involved in how the boxes are collected and distributed.  This aligned wonderfully with the Year 3’s Unit of Inquiry on How We Organise Ourselves, and the systems involved in communities. We will be relying on our students in Y3 to spread the word.

What is Box of Hope?

Box of Hope is a Hong Kong-based charity that collects donated boxes or bags filled with essentials and treats for other, more needy children.

What can I do?

Start collecting items now. You can do this individually or with another family. Stickers will be given out to all students in Primary, with more available from the Library on Floor 2 or the main reception. There are separate stickers for Primary and Secondary-aged recipients.

When is collection day?

Filled boxes or bags can be brought into school from Monday, 20 October to Friday, 24 October. Our final collection day is the morning of Friday, 31 October. Please note that after this date, boxes should be delivered directly to the sorting centre in Exchange Square, in Central. 

You can also send in empty boxes for us to reuse, as there is always a need for more in the community.

House Boxapalooza 

Each house member who brings in a box earns a house tally point as part of the house spirit connection. 

A special request directly from Box of Hope

Over the last few years, there has been an increased demand for items suitable for teens. If you can’t do a whole box, please consider donating some of the following items, such as cute stationery, notepads, sanitary pads, roll-on deodorant, or anything else that can be used to top up boxes in the sorting centre.

Our Year 4–6 Gala has been a wonderful celebration of energy, teamwork, and community spirit over the past two days. Students have given their all in every event, showing determination, and true sportsmanship. Thank you to those that were able to join us, and for the part you played in creating an electric atmosphere, where all students felt supported.

Congratulations to all participants and a huge thank you to Mr. Tomlin and the PE department for planning and delivering this fantastic event.

We are excited to announce our upcoming celebration of Diwali, the Festival of Lights, at Discovery College on Friday, 17 October 2025. In collaboration with our Parent Teacher Association (PTA), we have planned a wonderful day filled with fun and engaging activities to honour this special occasion for the students.

Our celebration will begin with a traditional dance performance featuring students from across the College, choreographed by our talented Ms Nebel. The performance will begin at 8:10am in the Foyer entrance of the school. We invite you to stay and watch the students perform this dance as you drop off your children at school.

Throughout the day, Primary students will have various activities to engage with in their classrooms, designed to celebrate Diwali.

Finally, we invite everyone, from students to staff, to come to school either dressed in vibrant, colourful, or traditional attire to celebrate this meaningful cultural day, should they wish to. Alternatively, students can choose to wear school uniform.

We look forward to celebrating Diwali together and making it a memorable experience for our community!

We are thrilled to announce that, due to popular demand, Santa's Grotto will be at the DC PTA Family Fun Day once again this year! Mark your calendars for 6 December, when you can visit Santa's magical grotto from 12:00 - 4:00pm. We are seeking enthusiastic volunteers for our Santa's Grotto. If you have a theatrical background and would like to embrace the role of Santa Claus, we'd love to hear from you!

This is a fantastic opportunity for your little ones to write a special message to the big man himself and hand-deliver it directly to him. We can’t wait to see the joy on their faces!

ESF Explore is excited to share a fantastic opportunity for ESF students to participate in FREE 1- hour basketball clinics which will include live demonstrations and showcasing of skills and drills by official NBA Brooklyn Nets coaches, the best of the NBA.

These clinics will also be supported by ESF Explore Staff, and their event partner Double V. This exclusive event offers your child a chance to learn dribbling, shooting, and teamwork drills directly from world-class coaches.

Open to ESF students from Primary to Secondary (ages 6-14) of all skill levels. Spaces are limited, so we encourage you to RSVP as soon as possible to secure a spot!

Transportation Note: Parking is not available at Island School. We recommend taking the No. 9 minibus from Exchange Square or a taxi.

The 78th MUSIC Festival organised by the Hong Kong Schools Music and Speech Association (HKSMSA) is now open for registration.

Enrolment Procedure

Discovery College (DC) will only facilitate the application process for DC students.

Parents are responsible for reviewing and adhering to all instructions and information found on the HKSMSA website and syllabus. DC staff are unable to provide guidance or advice on the specifics of the application or competition.

1. Register/Enrol through the DC exclusive link(s) provided below. Enrolment closes at 10am, Friday 10 October 2025. Any late submission, regardless of reasons, will not be accepted by HKSMSA.

• For Primary (Y1 – Y6) students, use DC-Primary 2025/2026
• For Secondary (Y7 – Y12) students, use DC-Secondary 2025/2026

2. After submitting the enrolment form, you will receive an email notification from HKSMSA. Please forward your acknowledgement to cca@dc.edu.hk for further processing.

3. An entry fee payment request will be sent to parents via the ESF App - Reply Slip. Payment is due on or before 10am, Friday 17th October 2025.
