On Thursday, the Music Department proudly hosted the inaugural DC Musicians of the Year concert. This special event gave Primary and Secondary students a wonderful platform to showcase their talents, performing solo pieces in the spirit of friendly competition while celebrating their hard work and achievements from this academic year.

The audience was treated to an incredibly diverse lineup. The vocal category spanned everything from traditional Chinese opera and German Lied to Indian Carnatic music and classic pop. Meanwhile, the Instrumental categories were just as thrilling, featuring impressive performances on the tabla, guzheng, piano, oboe, electric guitar, and more. Our young musicians delivered outstanding performances, leaving our panel of judges with a truly challenging task.

• Twinkle (Year 4) – Vocalist Category & Overall Primary Winner

• Lleyton (Year 6) – Instrumental Category Winner

Secondary DC Musicians of the Year: 

• Kian (Year 10) - Vocalist Category & Overall Secondary Winner

• Gavin (Year 9) - Instrumental Category Winner 

Our runners up were Rachel (Year 6), Ariana (Year 6), Steve (Year 9) and Cassie (Year 9) .

A heartfelt thank you goes out to our wonderful judges, Mr Gardner, Ms Stuckey, Ms Cheung, Ms Leung, Mr Jolly, and Ms Lau for dedicating their time and expertise to support our students.

Huge congratulations to all of our talented performers! We look forward to building on this fantastic success and making the DC Musicians of the Year concert a beloved annual tradition.

Huge congratulations to our superb Chinese Debate Team, who took home the championship title at the ESF Chinese Debate Final on 1 June.

This historic win is a testament to our students' incredible passion, grit, and dedication. Over the past few weeks, the team has been spending countless extra hours after school - meticulously drafting scripts, analysing arguments, and strategically planning their rebuttals. During the final, they brilliantly executed the advanced tactics and strategies they sharpened during their after-school debate coaching sessions. Their hard work truly paid off on the big stage!

Our debaters also earned well-deserved individual recognition throughout the tournament:

• Preliminary Round (Saturday, 27 May): Huge shoutout to Natalia and Alex for winning Best Debater awards
• Grand Final (Monday, 1 June): Incredible job by Thomas, Natalia, Joy, Alex and Alice, who were all nominated for Best Debaters

What a spectacular season for the DC volleyball program! Our student-athletes demonstrated incredible grit, growth, and determination to bring home major silverware this week.

U12 Boys’ Volleyball: ISSFHK Division 2 Champions

After a one-year hiatus, the boys' programme relaunched from scratch, with a roster composed mostly of football players. Despite learning a brand-new sport and navigating a risky, last-minute lineup change right before the playoffs, the boys adjusted beautifully. Driven by a roaring home crowd, they defeated CAIS in the semifinals and triumphed over AISHK from the serving line to clinch the championship title!

U12 Girls’ Volleyball: Division 1 Runners-Up

Following last year's promotion, a young squad stepped up to the elite Division 1 tier. After training all season tirelessly, they avenged an earlier league loss by defeating CDNIS in a spectacular semifinal. In the finals against first-place HKIS, the girls fought back to force a nail-biting deciding set, earning a proud second-place finish.

A massive thank you to all the parents, staff, and students who came out to support our teams, and a special shout-out to our U14 to U20 players who volunteered to officiate the matches.

Welcoming our Incoming Year 7 Students

On 29 May, we welcomed our rising Year 7 students into Secondary Lessons as part of the ESF-wide transition day. Combining our current primary students and those joining us in August, the cohort got their first taste of the MYP. Students rotated through Design, Math, Sciences, and Visual Arts, using a “transition passport” to record their reflections on the way.

Highlights of the Day

• Design: Students learned CAD software to design a personalised keychain, which our teachers brought to life as a take-home souvenir
• Maths: Students tackled problem-solving scenarios, discovering how collaborative and fun secondary math can be
• Science: Hands-on experiments with colour, light, and Bunsen burners sparked curiosity about chemistry and physics
• Visual Arts: Using a wide range of materials, students explored their creativity through abstract art.

Navigating the Nerves

The honesty in the student’s passport feedback was invaluable. While they were excited, they also shared natural anxieties, including using unfamiliar software, finding secondary math difficult, handling lab equipment safely, and even just keeping paint off their clothes.

Moving to Secondary is a major milestone. By naming their worries, these students have shown us exactly how we can support their individual needs when they step into the classroom this August.

Looking Ahead

We are using these transition passports to shape our upcoming curriculum and support systems, ensuring our new Year 7s feel understood and confident from day one.

A huge thank you to all the teachers who made this day possible, and to the parents who attended our welcome parent presentation. Special thanks must go to Luk (Year 7) and Zoe (Year 12) for sharing their inspiring MYP experiences to the parents. We also had fantastic 15 year 7 students assisting over the day with the CAD lesson. Having our families on this journey makes all the difference. 

Finally, thank you to our incoming Year 6 students for your enthusiasm, courage, and honesty. We can’t wait to see you in August.

We are excited to present this 200 page Yearbook which highlights memories from various college events, including Cobra sports teams, house competitions, music performances, drama productions, camps, trips, and more. It’s a wonderful way to remember the year!

A heartfelt thank you to all the families who joined us on Wednesday evening to learn more about Neuro-Affirming Care with Clinical Psychologist Dr Scarlett Mattoli. It was wonderful to see so many families from Year 1 through to Year 13 connecting, sharing stories and learning side by side.

We are deeply grateful to our PTA for organizing this valuable event and to Dr. Scarlett Mattoli for sharing her expertise with our families. Her insights and engaging presentation made for a truly enriching evening.

We are thrilled to share some incredible news! On 28 May our very own Mr McLeay was honoured as a finalist for the prestigious ISSFHK Coach of the Year Awards.

With 34 member schools across the ISSFHK network, simply being named a finalist is an outstanding achievement. What makes this feat truly extraordinary is Mr McLeay's unmatched consistency: he has been selected as a finalist in all three years since the award's inception!

This recognition is a testament to his high standing and the profound, positive impact he has made across the ISSFHK community. We are incredibly grateful for his remarkable dedication, leadership, and genuine commitment to nurturing our basketball teams day in and day out.

Please join us in giving Mr McLeay a massive round of applause and a huge congratulations next time you see him!

The PTA is extremely proud to be sponsoring “The DCPTA China in Action Programme Development”.

This incredible initiative will be an invaluable tool for our children, as they’ll be able to get real hands-on experience with the Chinese language they are learning in their classrooms. By connecting them to real-world experiences, the students will learn a powerful lesson, and the learning outcomes will be long-lasting and impactful for their future.

Chinese language is an important part of our children’s learning at DC, and the PTA is committed to working alongside the school to support experiences like these which enhance their learning in a fun and innovative way.

To kick off our appreciation, the PTA sponsored a fun quiz night for staff on Thursday, June 4th, complete with exciting prizes. It was a fantastic way for staff to unwind and enjoy some friendly competition.

Today, the PTA treated the whole school staff to a wonderful Italian feast on parents behalf during school lunch. It was a delightful occasion where they not only served delicious food but also handed out the quiz prizes to last night's winners, celebrating their hard work and dedication.
