Opportunity to become a Parent Member of the College Council

The purpose of the Discovery College Council is to help the College provide the best possible education for its students. Council members undertake their roles on a voluntary basis and are prepared to share their knowledge, skills and experience for the good of the College as a whole. The guidance offered and decisions made form part of the framework within which our teachers work.

We write to give notice of the election of a Parent Member to a vacancy on the Discovery College Council. This vacancy arises because the previous member, Pushkar Sane, has finished his final term on Council. He has served with distinction over many years and we extend our thanks to him for all his contributions.

The term of office of School Council members is three years. Any parent of a student attending Discovery College, who is not an employee of ESF, is eligible to stand for election to the School Council.

Should you wish to nominate yourself for election, please complete the nomination form, which is downloadable here. You are invited to prepare a brief personal statement (no more than 300 words) setting out your relevant experience and stating what you would hope to contribute to the Council and the College (download the personal statement form here). A copy of any personal statement received will be sent to all parents of students attending Discovery College in the event that an election is needed (see below). Please note that all personal data received will be processed only as necessary and in accordance with ESF’s personal data handling policy available on the ESF website. Completed nomination forms, together with the optional personal statement, should be scanned and emailed to karen.shum@dc.edu.hk, or a physical copy handed into College Reception in a sealed envelope marked for the attention of Karen Shum. The last date for the receipt of nomination forms and optional personal statement is Monday, 24 November 2025.

In the event that two or more nominations are received, an election will be held - in this eventuality, details of how to participate will be shared with all parents in due course. If one nomination is received, the need for an election will be dispensed with and the candidate will be elected unopposed.

For an informal discussion about what being a member of the College Council involves, parents are welcome to contact the Principal via chloe.pollack@dc.edu.hk.

Young Performers Evening

On Thursday, 30 October, the DC Performing Arts Theatre was the place to be. It was our annual Young Performers Evening. The evening showcased the incredible range and depth of talent in our Primary School at Discovery College. We were treated to a diverse programme, ranging from delicate solo instrumental pieces and duets that captivated the audience to full band performances that brought the house down.

A particularly heartwarming highlight was seeing students share the stage with their parents and siblings creating truly special collaborative performances, underscoring how music connects our community.

Thank you to all the dedicated performers for sharing their passion, and to the families for their ongoing support for music.

We are already looking forward to the next one!

DC Students participate in ESF World Maths Competition

Last Saturday, our Secondary Mathematics teacher, Ms Venkatasubramanian supported 6 students at Renaissance College for the ESF World Maths Competition. Our students did brilliantly!

We would like to give a particular shout out to Fiona (Year 9) who earned gold in two categories and to Steve (Year 9) who acheived a gold medal and made the top acheivers of the event, which earned him entry into the World Maths Olympiad.

We thank RCHK for hosting the competition and to Ms Venkatasubramanian for supporting the students.

Congratulations to all participants!

Y3 No Boundaries Camp

We would like to extend our heartfelt congratulations to our Year 3 students for demonstrating an impressive array of learner profile attributes during their first "No Boundaries" experience. Their courage as risk-takers, resilience in facing new challenges, and ability to maintain balance throughout the trip truly stood out.

The students had a fantastic time exploring the beautiful Tai Tong campsite with their friends. They engaged in a variety of exciting activities, including archery, bushcraft skills, and team-building exercises. Hiking through the scenic trails of Tai Tong allowed them to connect with nature and deepen their friendships.

The joy and enthusiasm among the students were palpable, and they are already looking forward to their next "No Boundaries" adventure. Here are some quotes from the students that capture their excitement:

"Bushcraft was so fun and loads of insects to see"
"I loved the nature walk and seeing the wildlife"
"I loved sleeping in bunk beds with my friends!"
"The food was yummy!"
" I loved my instructors!"

Well done to the Year 3 students on their first camp experience!

Art Competition at DC

The Art competition was a full school initiative, spearheaded by our Secondary Art Captains and Mr Lester. The objective was to welcome our Principal by decorating her new office with some amazing student artworks. The call for submissions celebrated our wonderful school with the theme of: 'Grow. Discover. Dream'.

The newly elected Arts Captain Chairs, Luzia and Mahi (Y12 students) curated the wall space with Ms Pollack and chose the submissions they thought exemplified our school motto. While not all pieces were selected, the entire artwork was on display at the Foyer, this entire week.

Congratulations to all the participants! The judging was not easy for the Art Captains and Principal Pollack. A big shout out to Luzia and Mahi for their curation efforts and support from the Art Captains Team!

The "Winner Boards" will be displayed in the Principal's Office.

Thank you to all the students for your time and participation. We are all so impressed by all your artwork!

Student - Led International School Science Debate Competition

The ISSDC Competition last Friday, was led by two of our Year 13 students - Alisia and Sophie.

Student Experience: Hear from our Students

'The International School Science Debate competition was founded to combine our two passions: Science and Debate. With modern scientific issues such as climate change and artificial intelligence impacting us all, we wanted to create a platform where students could discuss these topics in the most logical and evidence-based way possible. Thus, on 31 October 2025, we gathered supervising teachers and students from six ESF schools - DC, IS, KGV, RC, SIS, and WIS, as well as 6 judges from the ESF Centre, HKU, CUHK, and CityU to evaluate the debates taking place.

Ultimately, WIS claimed victory, DC came second, and KGV came third. However, regardless of the results, we would like to extend our gratitude to everyone who participated and helped us throughout the process. Despite the minor obstacles along the journey, the event made it all worthwhile - a competition that we hope to pass on and continue in the years ahead'.

Family Fun Day: Calling for Volunteers

EE: Caring is Sharing

This week saw the return of the yearly Year 12 and 13 'Caring is Sharing' session. The Year 12s were paired up with the Year 13s and were encouraged to ask and answer questions about the Extended Essay. Year 12 students were able to discover more about the  process and get some top tips from the Year 13s. There was a lot of laughter and new friendships made.

Thank you to Ms Leung for organising such a fun and informative  event and to our students and Learning Advisors for showing enthusiasm and participation.
