Alice@ Wonderland - a resounding success!

Our DC Primary production of Alice@Wonderland was nothing short of spectacular! The students dedicated countless hours and immense effort to bring this whimsical tale to life, and we couldn't be prouder of their hard work.

A huge thank you to all the teachers who contributed so much to the production's success. We were thrilled to see so many parents in the audience, and your support made the evening even more special. Events such as this not only create special memories and learning opportunities for those involved, but contribute to our sense of belonging at Discovery College.

Thank you for being such a wonderful audience for our talented primary performers!

Secondary: Y7 to Y12 Three-Way Conferences Reminder

Three-way conferences will take place on Monday, 12 May (1.30 - 6.30 pm) and Thursday 15 May (1.30 - 6.30 pm). These are 5-minute interviews with teachers, where you and your child are present and participating. The conferences will be conducted over Zoom.

The conversation during the appointments will focus on:

  • Where am I going? Feedback that clarifies the learning intentions and success criteria that are being used in lessons.

  • How am I going? Feedback that ensures the student knows how they are progressing in relation to the learning intention. This should include explicit reference to current assessment/attainment grades in relation to expected outcomes.

  • Where to next? Suggesting the steps needed to address the gap between their learning and the intended outcome. This could also be 'Even Better If...' ideas if the students are meeting or exceeding expectations.

  • Questions - an opportunity for parents/students to ask further questions and address any concerns.

Lessons for Secondary Students will finish at 12.20pm on the days of the conferences. The schedule will be as follows (Primary schedule is not impacted):

There will be no Discovery Time on these days.

Students will be expected to participate in the conferences from home.

Please ensure you have made arrangements for your child to return home after school if they usually take the school bus.

The booking system has closed. Please contact your teachers directly to make changes.

ESF CP Exhibition -'Our Home through our Eyes'

The ESF-wide Career-related Programme exhibition “Our Home Through Our Eyes" took place on 7 May  at Wyndham Social, based on the unit ‘Street photography’ in the course ‘Personal and Professional skills’. Y12 IBCP CP students from seven ESF secondary schools presented their best photographs capturing Hong Kong people and places.

Students demonstrated their understanding of applied ethics, effective communication, and intercultural understanding themes through street photography. Students shared the ethical implications of capturing images of people and places, enhancing their awareness of privacy and consent. They showcased their communication skills, as they articulated their artistic choices and connected with diverse perspectives.

Overall, this exhibition provided students with an opportunity to demonstrate their technical and communication skills while fostering critical engagement with the diverse socio-cultural perspectives and the ethical and technical dimensions of photography.

Election of Parent Member of the College Council

The purpose of the Discovery College Council is to help the College provide the best possible education for its students. Council members undertake their roles on a voluntary basis and are prepared to share their knowledge, skills and experience for the good of the College as a whole. The guidance offered and decisions made form part of the framework within which our teachers work.

We write to give notice of the election of a Parent Member to a vacancy on the Discovery College Council. This vacancy arises because the previous member, Pushkar Sane, has finished his final term on Council. He has served with distinction over many years and we extend our thanks to him for all his contributions.

The term of office of School Council members is three years. Any parent of a student

attending Discovery College, who is not an employee of ESF, is eligible to stand for

election to the School Council.

Should you wish to nominate yourself for election please complete the nomination form, which is downloadable here. You are invited to prepare a brief personal statement (no more than 300 words) setting out your relevant experience and stating what you would hope to contribute to the Council and the College (download the personal statement form here). A copy of any personal statement received will be sent to all parents of students attending Discovery College in the event that an election is needed (see below). Please note that all personal data received will be processed only as necessary and in accordance with ESF’s personal data handling policy available on the ESF website. Completed nomination forms, together with the optional personal statement, should be scanned and emailed to karen.shum@dc.edu.hk, or a physical copy handed into College Reception in a sealed envelope marked for the attention of Karen Shum. The last date for the receipt of nomination forms and optional personal statement is Friday, 23 May 2025.

In the event that two or more nominations are received, an election will be held - in this eventuality, details of how to participate will be shared with all parents in due course. If one nomination is received, the need for an election will be dispensed with and the candidate will be elected unopposed.

For an informal discussion about what being a member of the College Council involves, parents are welcome to contact the Principal via james.smith@dc.edu.hk.
