TEDx Youth: Kaleidoscope

Our recent TEDx event held on Monday was a resounding success, bringing our school community together to explore a brilliant array of ideas under the captivating theme of Kaleidoscope. We were absolutely delighted to welcome so many members of our local community alongside supportive families and friends, whose presence and enthusiasm filled the theatre with an incredible energy.

The diverse range of talks delivered by our insightful student speakers challenged perspectives and sparked meaningful conversations that continued long after the final presentation concluded, beautifully reflecting the shifting patterns of thought that our theme represented.

This event stood as a true testament to the exceptional creativity, collaboration, and ambition of our students. We extend our deepest gratitude to the dedicated organising team and our wonderful audience for their vital support in making the entire experience such an outstanding triumph for our school.

Primary Inter-House Football

On Tuesday afternoon we saw the Year 5s and 6s battle it out in the Primary House Football Tournament. There was some excellent football played as players looked to unlock defences with moments of skill, accurate passing and pinpoint shooting. Defences solidly held attackers at bay and there were some phenomenal saves from acrobatic goalkeepers.

After 4 round robin games in a league format, we saw green house against purple house in the boys final and green house against yellow house in the girls final.

Congratulations to green house in both competitions, the green house girls winning in regular time 3 - 0 and the green house boys winning by a golden goal after a 1 - 1 draw in regular time.

Many thanks to our scholarship students who refereed matches and to members of our Under 16 boys and girls teams, who managed the primary student team on the day. Moreover, well done to all of the players who played competetively, and with excellent sportsmanship all afternoon.

Year 1 Treasure Chest Workshop

On Monday afternoon, Year 1 and 2 students had a visit from Treasure Chest. Year 1 children had a wonderful time collaborating with peers and learning how to create puppets. The afternoon ended with a truly wonderful puppet show in the Theatre for our Year 1 and 2 students.

Events such as this are crucial in unlocking the creativity in our young learners and, moreover, are lots of fun!

Professor Dame Jane Jiang meets our Year 11 and 12 Students

We were delighted to welcome Professor Dame Jane Jiang DBE to our school during Science Week for an inspiring talk with our Year 11 and 12 students, 'Driven by Curiosity'.

Fueled by curiosity and a passion for science, Jane Jiang transformed nearly two decades on a bus production line into a journey that led her to a PhD and international recognition in metrology.

During her visit, Jane shared insights into her pioneering work developing new measurement technologies and universal characterisation methods. The applications of this technology range from Atomic Force Microscopes and the James Webb Telescope to CERN’s Large Hadron Collider.

Her message to our students was powerful and clear: “Never stop learning: it is the most reliable investment you can make in life.”

Our students engaged enthusiastically, asking questions from strategies for overcoming challenges in learning to the exciting future of metamaterials. The conversation reflected their curiosity and eagerness to explore the frontiers of science, inspired by Professor Jiang’s remarkable journey.

Year 12 Language & Culture students meet renowned author Danau Tanu

On 5 June, our Year 12 Language and Culture class attended a meeting with Danau Tanu, the anthropologist and author of the ethnography 'Growing Up in Transit'. The session featured a presentation by Lucia on her language learning journey, research insights on third culture communities from Renaissance College Vice Principal Jess Davey-Peel, and contributions from King George V School philosophy students in Years 10 and 12.

Together, we discussed what it means to be a 'third culture kid', the struggle for identity within mixed culture youth, and how third culture kids change differently as they grow up. Our attitudes and beliefs on specific languages can have impacts on younger populations in an ever-more international environment.

This integrated well into our studies in Language and Culture, as not only is Growing Up in Transit one of the ethnographies we are currently studying, but this allowed us to gain insight from the author directly, improving our understanding of the text and giving us ideas for our own internal assessment in Language and Culture.

Year 1 Celebration of Learning

Last Friday, our Year 1 children proudly showcased their learning in our 'How We Express Ourselves' unit of inquiry. Families were treated to wonderful performances, where students sang a range of different songs. Their confidence and creativity shone through, and it was a truly special experience for everyone involved.

Afterwards, parents and children joined together for an engaging hands-on experience, exploring different forms of expression through storytelling and puppet shows, as well as Monet-inspired art, wearable fashion, and pop-up cards. Our Year 1 students confidently demonstrated how their imagination helps them think, create, and share their ideas.

DCPTA Sponsored Year 12 Summer Social

On Friday, 5 June, Year 12 came together for their End-of-Year Summer Social, kindly funded by the PTA. The social was a time to come together and celebrate the successes of their first year of the IB Diploma Programme.

The social was summer-themed and included a photo booth, Henna station, board games, and even a limbo competition! Students enjoyed pizza and snacks and danced the evening away!

These events are so important in building connections and a sense of belonging among the cohort, who were celebrating the end of their Mock Exams.

Thank you to our ambassadors, Ms Allen and the Year 12 Learning Advisors, for their support, and for the PTA for their kind contribution.

Year 5 Student secures first place at the Hong Kong Inter-School Aquathlon Championships 2026

We are delighted to share that Alberto earned 1st place in the Primary School Boys PC category at the CCB International Hong Kong Inter-School Aquathlon Championships 2026, hosted by the Triathlon Association of Hong Kong China.

Beating out a massive field of 146 competitors in the 50m swim and 900m run, Alberto secured the top spot on the podium with a phenomenal total time of 5 minutes and 36 seconds. His impressive performance included a blisteringly fast 54-second swim, a swift 37-second transition, and a strong 4-minute and 5-second run.

Congratulations to all of our students that participated on the day, and for pushing their limits in this challenging event.

PTA China in Action: Expansion Plan

The curriculum at Discovery College includes a comprehensive Chinese language programme, and the PTA-sponsored China in Action trips will provide students with invaluable opportunities to immerse themselves in the language and culture. These thoughtfully crafted day trips bridge classroom learning with real-world experiences, offering students unique encounters that text books simply cannot replicate.

For the 2026-27 academic year, each secondary year group will have two scheduled trips, with three planned trips per year in 2027-28. With these expanded opportunities, the potential for experiential learning is limitless, and the PTA takes great pride in bringing this remarkable programme to life!
