Deadline for Student Withdrawal

Parents are reminded that Wednesday, 30 April 2025 is the deadline for informing the College of the withdrawal of a student who will not be returning in August 2025.

Parents who wish to withdraw their child from Discovery College are required to submit a Student Withdrawal Form via the ESF App*. The online Student Withdrawal form is the ONLY official way for parents to inform Discovery College of their children leaving the school.

All current DC students paid a two-month deposit upon entry to the College. The first half of this deposit was offset against the first month’s fees while the remaining half is credited against the fees for the last month of enrolment, subject to a two-month advance notice of withdrawal. In order to ensure the utilisation of the remaining half of the deposit as payment for the last month of enrolment, e.g. June 2025 (the end of this academic year) if the student is not returning in August 2025, notification is required no later than Wednesday 30 April 2025. Please note that any subsequent change of the last date of attendance or cancellation of the withdrawal may be declined.

As soon as the online Student Withdrawal form is received, Discovery College will offer an admission assessment/interview for the year group in question to applicants on the relevant waiting list who, if successful at assessment/interview, will be offered the current student’s place to start after the last date of attendance as per the Student Withdrawal Notice.

Enquiries regarding student withdrawal can be addressed to our Admissions Department at admissions@dc.edu.hk

Current Year 13 students graduating at the end of the current 2024-25 academic year do not have to submit the Student Withdrawal form.

DC Celebrates International Women's Week

The past week, Discovery College has been celebrating International Women’s Week!

For the duration of this week, our student leaders (DC’s SAA/CAS Captains) have organised a series of events in order to raise awareness for the challenges of womanhood and show appreciation for all the women in our lives.

Starting the week off strong, students from the college were quizzed on historical famous women. Primary students were invited to play ‘Guess the woman’, while the secondary students that were up for the challenge demonstrated their knowledge through an emoji quiz.

Cards to Charity for Women was hosted on Tuesday, encouraging students to write kind and uplifting messages to domestic women who were in a crisis. These cards are then given to Bethune House, a charity that shelters troubled migrant women.

On Wednesday, Primary students were given the opportunity to unleash their creativity through finger painting, where they were prompted to create a painting of a famous woman or a female role model in their lives.

Primary students kindled their love of reading and respect for world-favourite female icons through an engaging storytime facilitated by the CAS Captains on Thursday. Primary students were encouraged to read and learn about the likes of Joan of Arc, Queen Elizabeth I and Malala. Students enjoyed reading stories of these inspirational women and learnt much more about standing up for their beliefs and rights.

For the most exciting event and thrilling finale to mark the end of the week, 12 male students and teachers were invited on stage to engage with a period cramp simulator. Participants were asked questions about menstrual health and iconic women, whilst simultaneously using the period cramp device. If answered incorrectly, participants were challenged with doing daily tasks such as yoga, sketching and running on the spot. The significance of this event was recognition and respect towards the women in their lives, and aimed to give male teachers and students a hint of the struggles that women go through on a monthly basis. The event was highly successful, with the theatre brimming with excited students and teachers that were eager to witness their colleagues and students' experience the trials and tribulations of womanhood.

Thank you to our student leaders and staff who facilitated such a meaningful and successful week.

Year 5 Camp to Cheung Chau

This week, our Year 5 students had an unforgettable adventure at Cheung Chau Island. A highlight was exploring the famous Pirate's Cave, where students learned about local legends while navigating its winding passages, feeling like real explorers on a treasure hunt. A few lucky ones even left with some gold (chocolate) coins that they found along the way!

Rock climbing was another exhilarating activity. Under professional supervision, students pushed their limits and celebrated their accomplishments with cheers and high-fives, fostering camaraderie and a sense of achievement.

Team-building challenges, including catapult building and a parachute egg-drop, enhanced collaboration, communication and, ultimately, friendships. These experiences all stand us in good stead for times ahead, with a broader comfort zone as well as lasting memories.

A big thank you to the teachers  who made this camp possible - we are already looking forward to our next one, although time with family and our own beds is something we are all excited about this weekend!

Career Fair at DC - A Huge Success!

Students had the valuable opportunity to engage with a diverse range of 35 industry professionals at our career fair on Wednesday, 12 March. It was abundantly clear that students relished every moment and greatly benefited from the interactions with career participants and exploring a myriad of different opportunities and pathways.

A huge thank you to our wonderful parent community and alumni who took the time out of their busy working day to participate in this meaningful event. The range of careers represented was incredible - from lawyers to doctors and dentists, to artists, journalists, musicians, Olympiad athletes, NGOs, venture capitalists, risk managers,  and engineers and so many more. The reaction from students is encapsulated in a recurring comment ’There are so many exciting and interesting careers represented here today I want to talk to them all!’ .

Celebrating our Music Artist in Residence: Doug Goodkin

The music department is excited to share some highlights from a recent visit from world renowned music educator Doug Goodkin. Doug first visited DC way back in 2010 and he was very excited to return to DC and spend time with our Year 3, Year 8, and Year 9 classes once again.

Doug is the author of 10 books, an expert in the Orff Schulwerk approach to music education which is holistic and student centred. He regularly travels the globe teaching students and music educators and has been working at ESF schools for 2 weeks here in Hong Kong.

Doug emphasises that children come to formal music training already possessing a natural inclination for music. Left to their own devices, they express themselves by singing, chanting, playing clapping games, exploring sounds, and dancing. This innate musicality is something we can cultivate and nurture in our classrooms. By teaching music in a way that feels musical, we can help students develop their instincts into greater skills and understanding.

Through these hands-on experiences, our students developed essential life skills such as collaboration, social skills, creative thinking, and kinesthetic abilities. But most importantly, they had FUN! Our students enjoyed playing, singing, dancing, improvising and reflecting on their experiences. Students engaged in music traditions from all around the globe and Doug’s workshops provided valuable opportunities not only for our students but also our music teachers and support staff.

Overall this was a wonderful experience for our students and we hope Doug Goodkin will have an opportunity to return to DC in the future.

On the evening of 7 March,  Mr. Man's Year 12 Chinese Language and Literature class attended a performance of the Chinese play 'Thunderstorm' at the Hong Kong Academy of Performing Arts. Having studied the script in their Chinese class, the students were thrilled to experience the play in a live theater setting. It was an exciting and enriching experience for all involved.

Trip to Jao Tsung-I Academy

Last Friday, 7 March, four of our Chinese Phase 3-4 classes had an amazing trip to the Jao Tsung-I Academy. Students enjoyed a Mandarin Guided Tour and a fun Chinese Dough Modeling workshop, giving them a chance to experience Mandarin in a real-world setting. Furthermore, this helped to deepen our cultural appreciation and reminded us that learning a language provides us with the tools to experience a great deal more through our exchanges with others.

DC Students Compete in ESF Marketing Competition 2025

On 7 March, a group of 12 DC students traveled to Island School to participate in the annual ESF Marketing Competition. Students had to come up with a series of marketing tasks for Dough Bros, including the marketing of a unique new pizza and helping to create a sustainable business plan for their products. Our 2 teams really impressed the panel with their Taco and Tiramisu themed pizzas!

Many thanks to Mr Au for organising the trip, and for providing the opportunity for students to apply their theoretical knowledge in a real-life context, with peers from across the ESF.
