DC Celebrates Earth Day

To acknowledge and raise awareness of International Earth Day on Wednesday 22 April, we have held a range of activities this week as part of DC's Earth Week. These collective actions have highlighted the small but powerful ways we can contribute to environmental responsibility.

The week kicked off in Primary with assemblies centred around Earth Day. During these assemblies, students were given a leaf to write down their Earth Day pledge. They were encouraged to think about meaningful actions or changes they could commit to on Earth Day and beyond to support and protect the environment.

On 22 April ( Earth Day), the community and student leaders collaborated to create a canopy of leaves filled with vibrant and actionable pledges. We look forward to seeing this canopy flourish with our pledges for a greener and more sustainable planet.

On 23 April we observed a special Earth Hour during Block 1 across the College. By switching off lights and limiting electronic use we took a moment to reset and demonstrate our responsibility toward the planet. We hope this period of reflection encourages everyone to consider how often we rely on these resources.

Furthermore, our senior student leaders that are part of The Alliance for Sustainable Schools (TASS) group was active during lunch times throughout the week, leading a range of acitivies and discussions. These conversations are vital for raising awareness of the sustainable actions we can take each day to make a lasting difference in our community.

Although Earth Week is ending, our commitment to the planet must remain a standard part of our daily lives. We encourage everyone to continue the habits we explored, namely:

Rethink: Keep auditing your daily habits for small changes like a plastic free lifestyle.

Reconnect: Continue to find moments to switch off and mindfully appreciate our local environment.

Restore: Maintain practical steps like choosing plant forward meals.

Inspire: Keep sharing your commitment to a natural positive life with those around you.

Thank you to the teacher and student leaders that have guided us through the week, and for everyone who has engaged so thoughtfully.

DC Alumni star in Hong Kong Sevens

We are incredibly proud to see so many Discovery College faces at this year’s Hong Kong 7s!

It is a testament to our rugby pathway to see alumni Chloe Chan (Captain) and Shanna Forrest representing the HK National Team in the Melrose Claymores Cup. We also witnessed Flo Symmonds scoring tries for Canada in the main competition.

The future looks just as bright, with students Atsuhiro, Harry and Vili who competed in the Youth 7s final on 19 April.  A huge thank you as well to our many students volunteering as ballboys and girls to support the event.

Year 13 Film Exhibition

This week we celebrated the extraordinary filmmaking talent of the Year 13 IB Film Studies Class.

The film exhibition was a showcase of a wide range of examples of their creative endeavours in filmmaking, ranging from: Student Montages, which are submissions of a montage of different work students have created over the two years, including Mood films, Chase scenes, 3 minute narratives, and Two Genre films (where they film the same story but in two different genres); Special Mentions, which are films that show a high level of creativity or skill; and 7 Minute Films which are the final collaborative films that the HL students create.

We would like to thank our stduents for their creativity and collaboration and to the many parents and peers who joined us for the occasion, (our first Film Exhibition since 2019!) for their presence and support!

ESF Music Festival

All ESF music departments are excited to announce that next academic year the ESF Music Festival will return. This is an opportunity for secondary musicians from all ESF schools to join ensembles and perform at a concert on 23 September 2026, at the Tsuen Wan Town Hall. These ensembles perform at a high level and students taking part gain so much experience as young musicians. They are also a lot of fun and a wonderful opportunity to make new friends from other ESF schools who also enjoy music making.

If you would like to audition to take part in one or more of the ensembles then please read the information and instructions on this LETTER carefully. Included in this letter are links to the audition excerpts and the appropriate google form to complete depending if you are auditioning for vocal or instrument roles.

Please note the due date to complete the audition form and submit is strictly 6 May. Late submissions won't be accepted. Rehearsals will start this academic year and will take place at KGV on 5 and 16 June.

Any further inquiries please email DC's Head of Music, Mr Matt Davis at davism1@dc.edu.hk.
