Year 3 No Boundaries Camp Adventure at Cheung Chau

Our Year 3 students had an incredible camp experience at Cheung Cha. They enjoyed hiking and spotted beautiful birds and insects along the way. The kids had a fun treasure hunt, played on the beach, and worked as a team to construct and operate a catapult. They enjoyed an evening BBQ and spending fun times with lots of friends across the four Year 3 classes. It was a fantastic adventure, and one in which all the DC teachers are incredibly proud of each and every student! A big thank you to all the DC and Higher Ground staff that made this such a rewarding experience for all.

Quotes from some of our Year 3 students:

“We saw a beautiful bird’s nest, fire beaters, gorgeous views and felt the nature on the hike.”

“The hike - it was so fun, we learned about new kinds of rocks...one was shaped like a goat and one was shaped like an elephant.”

“We made our own pirate hats.”

“Lunch was yummy, even the cauliflower!”

The  catapulting was really fun because we got to make our own giant one as a team. Then with balls, we got ready to attack!”

“We are going to have a great time in our dorms with our friends.”

“I enjoyed earning the treasure hunt treasure!”

“I had lots and lots of fun playing at the playground.”

Last chance to register for the Love from Luke Blood Drive 2025

We’re pleased to announce that we’ve added a few more registration slots for the Love from Luke Blood Drive 2025. The event will take place on 4 March  on the 4th floor Senior Student Center at Discovery College.

This is a wonderful opportunity to donate blood and make a real difference in someone’s life.

Last week, Year 13 students supporting the Love4Luke Blood Drive campaign visited Year 5 classrooms, inspiring younger students to take action and join the campaign. In response, the Year 5 students created paper hearts, which they handed out to all students arriving at school this morning.

Year 1 Students visit Hong Kong Park

To support the learning of our "Sharing the Planet" unit of inquiry, Year 1 students visited Hong Kong Park. They explored the various wildlife spaces by visiting the aviary, tropical biomes, and the artificial lake. They thought about what they could see, hear, and smell, and used sketchnoting to record their thoughts and ideas.

Year 1 students had a fantastic time and particularly enjoyed spotting the turtles and the waterfall, as well as identifying different species of birds.

A massive thank you to the Year 1 parents who volunteered their time to support this trip and helped create such a wonderful experience for students.

Year 2 Celebration of Learning

Our Year 2 students showcased their learning about forces on Wednesday and were delighted to share this with their parents and members of our community in our Celebration of Learning.

From hands-on experiments to creative displays, our young learners confidently shared their knowledge of push and pull, gravity, and friction with their proud family members.

It was an incredible morning filled with excitement and smiles from students and parents alike!

DC Year 11 and 12 Students participate in History Competition at King George V School

On 25 February, ten enthusiastic Year 11 and 12 students from Discovery College joined a History competition at King George V School (KGV). Facing off against 40 other students from five ESF schools, our teams were ready for a fun half-day event. The morning kicked off with a captivating lecture by Dr. Michael Rivera and amateur historian Craig Mitchell, who shared their fascinating story about the archaeological discovery and investigation of the Avenger bomber that tragically crashed in the Tai Tam hills during a World War II raid.

Following this inspiring presentation, the students started the History quiz, which had five challenging rounds. Five rounds tested their knowledge across a diverse range of topics, from cultural events and glorious empires to the intricacies of world wars and the rich tapestry of Chinese history. A particularly memorable moment came during the picture round, when one of our teams, in a moment of confusion, identified Henry Kissinger as Mr Beast!

The competition culminated in an intense buzz challenge, where the top four teams battled for victory. Our Discovery College teams demonstrated impressive knowledge and quick thinking. Notably, our Year 12 team came close to the finals, missing out by a mere point. We're already looking forward to next year's quiz, where we're determined to build on this strong performance and aim for an even higher position.
