ESF Fundraising Day

Today, our community came together for our We Stand With Tai Po Fundraising Day to support those affected by the tragedy.

All students and staff were invited to wear a black ribbon for the day, as a show of respect and of unity, together with a sticker that has been designed by our student leaders.

We are raising funds for the Hong Kong Government’s Support Fund for Wang Fuk Court in Tai Po. We are delighted to have raised over $50, 000 HKD for this worthy cause, which will be used to assist residents in rebuilding their homes and providing long-term, ongoing support.

We will continue to accept donations next week in our Ground Floor Reception.

Thank you to the staff and students that are leading this campaign, and to our community for your generosity and compassion at this difficult time.

DC appoints new Primary Deputy Principal

We are delighted to announce the appointment of Leanne Sercombe as the new Primary Deputy Principal of Discovery College, effective August 2026.

This appointment comes following a rigorous and comprehensive recruitment process. During the various panel interviews and activities, Leanne demonstrated a deep understanding of our school's needs, coupled with a commitment to our vision and the ongoing growth of the school.

Leanne is a long-standing and valued member of the Discovery College community, first joining as a staff member in 2009. She is currently serving in the Primary Senior Leader role, and previously worked as the Interim Director of Pedagogy and Professional Learning last academic year. We know she will bring her expertise, experience, and a caring demeanour with her as she moves into the role in August.

We'd like to extend a big thank you to all staff, parents, and students who contributed to the recruitment process.

Students should wear school uniform as usual for all of next week.

Visiting Musicians for Year 4 this Week

Our Year 4 students were treated to an inspirational visit this week from three talented members of our parent community, who volunteered their time to share their musical expertise. Professional Hong Kong Philharmonic musicians Linda Stuckey (flute), Tae-Mi Song (cello), and Lorenzo Iosco (clarinet) gave a mini-performance for each Year 4 class, enriching our "How We Express Ourselves" unit of inquiry.

The students experienced how music can convey powerful emotions and express personal feelings, and it offered students a deeper understanding of art’s ability to convey feelings and ideas. A big 'thank you' from all the Year 4 students and their teachers.

Year 1 Stay and Play - 28 November

This term, Year 1 dove into the exciting world of structures for our “How the World Works” unit. Last Friday, the children had the fantastic opportunity to showcase their learning with families during our Unit of Inquiry Stay and Play event!

Our exploration centred around the idea that “Structures are designed for a variety of purposes.” The students proudly shared what they discovered about different types of structures, both natural and manufactured. It was wonderful to see them discuss how these structures were designed for strength, safety, and beauty.

The children really shone as they engaged with their families, sharing how their learning came to life. Throughout the unit, they had been busy building and designing their own structures using LEGO and recycled materials, showing off their problem-solving skills and creativity. It was amazing to witness our students grow as they connected their classroom learning with the real world, seeing firsthand how structures played a key role in our lives.

This event not only highlighted their hard work but also fostered a wonderful sense of community, bringing families together to celebrate the achievements of our young learners.

Thank you again to everyone for their support!

IB Career-related Programme: Site Visit to the Hotel and Tourism Institute/International Culinary Institute

Are you interested in a vibrant career in hospitality and culinary arts?

On 21 November 2025, interested Y11 students visited our IBCP partner, the Hotel and Tourism Institute/ International Culinary Institute (HTI/ICI), where they were provided with an introductory session to the program specifics, including types of modules, events, and assignments they will encounter during the course if they select it as a pathway for Y12-13. They then proceeded to receive a tour of the campus, which included a training hotel, classrooms featuring various cuisines, and a cooking demonstration hall.

HTI/ICI offers comprehensive training in both hospitality and culinary modules, equipping students with essential theories and practical skills. Graduates can find opportunities in diverse settings, including hotels, airline catering services, cruise ships, private residences, and embassies worldwide. For instance, Chef Henrik has extensive experience across Greece, the UK, South Africa, the UAE, and Hong Kong. The communication and problem-solving skills developed during the training are transferable to multiple sectors, including banking and human resources, making this career path both versatile and rewarding. Students also learn sustainable practices, such as growing their own vegetables and herbs, as well as business-related skills like managing hotel budgets and costs.

Upon completion, students may advance to a Higher Diploma, which includes a two-month internship facilitated by the institute, often leading to employment opportunities. There are also success stories of students continuing their pathway in universities overseas, such as Les Roches which is one of the few hospitality schools in the world to hold both Swiss Accreditation Council (SAC) status as a University of Applied Sciences Institute and New England Commission of Higher Education (NECHE) accreditation.

Year 13 Psychology Excursion

On Monday, 1 December our Y13 Psychology students had the opportunity to go to the Hong Kong Mindspace Museum in Castle Peak Hospital. This is the first museum of its kind in Hong Kong, providing a history of mental health treatments in Hong Kong, current practices and treatments, and VR simulations of various mental health symptoms.

Our students were able to learn more about the diagnostic process and treatment options and finished the experience with a Q&A session from their Human Library.

Lost & Found Property

The Lost & Found area has been reorganised, with items displayed in the Foyer.
