MYP IDU Week - 19 - 23 Jan

From Monday 19 to Friday 23 January, all MYP Year 7–11 students will take part in our annual Interdisciplinary Unit (IDU) Week. This is a dedicated project week, running off the regular timetable, so students can immerse themselves in inquiry, collaboration, and creating high-quality work.

In the MYP, interdisciplinary learning brings together knowledge, skills, and ways of thinking from two or more subject areas. Students learn to make connections across disciplines and apply their learning to real issues. This approach helps students strengthen key skills such as critical thinking, communication, collaboration, and creative problem‑solving, while also building a deeper understanding of the world beyond school.

During IDU Week, students will follow a project-based learning process. They will define a problem or challenge, research from different perspectives, work in teams to develop ideas, and then create and share solutions. Throughout this journey, students will reflect on their learning growth, identifying how their skills in inquiry, collaboration, and creative thinking have developed, and considering how they can apply these insights to future challenges.

What each year group will be working on:

  • Year 7 (English + Design): “Mission: Game On for a Better Future!”

Students will design a fun game that helps others understand the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), using the design cycle to prototype and improve their ideas.

  • Year 8 (English + Science + PHE): “Healthy Habits for a Happy Life!”

Students will create a persuasive health and wellbeing campaign to encourage healthy choices and positive community wellbeing.

  • Year 9 (English + PHE): “Bonding Communities in The Amazing Race!”

Students will design an Amazing Race-style learning experience and develop a promotional pitch that highlights teamwork, communication, and healthy competition.

  • Year 10 (Mathematics + Arts): “Order in Chaos!”

Students will explore mathematical patterns and use them to create an original artwork or performance, showing how structure can fuel creativity.

  • Year 11 (Individuals & Societies + Languages / Design / Food Design): “Hong Kong’s Heritage Mosaic”

Students will explore Hong Kong’s cultural heritage and identity through different interdisciplinary combinations, creating multilingual and creative products to share learning with others.

We look forward to seeing the learning, creativity, and collaboration that comes from this week. Thank you for supporting our students as they engage in meaningful interdisciplinary learning.

The DC Chamber Orchestra is back!

We are pleased to announce that the Chamber Orchestra has officially resumed rehearsals for the current academic year. It is a significant milestone for the Music Department to see our orchestral family reunited and enjoying making music.

The ensemble once again is made up of students from both Primary and Secondary. It is great to both see and hear students from both sectors coming together and the peer mentorship and musical growth we are witnessing is invaluable. We are particularly proud to welcome several new students to DC who have joined the ensemble, as well as those continuing students who are joining the orchestra for the first time. Their inclusion brings fresh energy to our ensemble and I look forward to them making new friends with a common passion for music.

We have an exciting new program of repertoire from an energetic fast paced classic to a piece with diverse and moody sections as well as a world premier!

We invite the school community to support these dedicated musicians at our Ensemble Evening taking place on 19 May. This event will serve as the debut performance for our new members and a celebration of the DC Chamber Orchestra family's return to the stage. We will also showcase the Cobra choir, student led secondary choir and the Stage Band.

We hope to see you there!

Year 10 Students deliver Outstanding Monologues!

On the evening of Thursday, 8 January, Year 10 took to the stage for the first DC performance of 2026, a monologue sharing.

Students' talents shone on stage as they delivered their own interpretations of their chosen monologues, utilising a wide range of physical and vocal skills while focusing on a naturalistic acting style. The monologues addressed a range of challenging topics, and the students delivered them with confidence and skill. They also made their own technical choices, including set, props, lighting, costume and sound.

A truly exceptional evening of talent, allowing parents and family to take a sneak peek into Theatre at DC.

Thank you to everyone who came to support and allowed your child to shine on stage.

Special thanks go to our Theatre team, Theatre Captains and all who came to support.

Year 9 Individuals and Societies Students

Our Year 9 I&S students are excited to begin their entrepreneurial journey in their latest unit, "We’re in Business" - look out for them in the community, as they promote their entrepreneurial ideas and efforts beyond the classroom.

This project offers a fantastic real-world context for learning, challenging our pupils to develop their own startup businesses to raise money for charity. Working in small teams, students will apply their enterprise skills to trade and sell products, with all proceeds being donated to the Crossroads Foundation. This Hong Kong-based charity performs vital work within the local community, and we are proud to support their mission through this practical school project.

Trading activities are scheduled to commence at the end of this week, giving teams until the end of January to manage their operations and maximise their fundraising potential. Students are learning that business is about more than just profit; it is about creativity, resilience, and social responsibility. We look forward to seeing the innovative ideas Year 9's future entrepreneurs bring to life over the coming weeks and will shre the outcomes of their work with you. Thank you for your continued support of their charitable efforts.
