From Monday 19 to Friday 23 January, all MYP Year 7–11 students will take part in our annual Interdisciplinary Unit (IDU) Week. This is a dedicated project week, running off the regular timetable, so students can immerse themselves in inquiry, collaboration, and creating high-quality work.
In the MYP, interdisciplinary learning brings together knowledge, skills, and ways of thinking from two or more subject areas. Students learn to make connections across disciplines and apply their learning to real issues. This approach helps students strengthen key skills such as critical thinking, communication, collaboration, and creative problem‑solving, while also building a deeper understanding of the world beyond school.
During IDU Week, students will follow a project-based learning process. They will define a problem or challenge, research from different perspectives, work in teams to develop ideas, and then create and share solutions. Throughout this journey, students will reflect on their learning growth, identifying how their skills in inquiry, collaboration, and creative thinking have developed, and considering how they can apply these insights to future challenges.
What each year group will be working on:
- Year 7 (English + Design): “Mission: Game On for a Better Future!”
Students will design a fun game that helps others understand the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), using the design cycle to prototype and improve their ideas.
- Year 8 (English + Science + PHE): “Healthy Habits for a Happy Life!”
Students will create a persuasive health and wellbeing campaign to encourage healthy choices and positive community wellbeing.
- Year 9 (English + PHE): “Bonding Communities in The Amazing Race!”
Students will design an Amazing Race-style learning experience and develop a promotional pitch that highlights teamwork, communication, and healthy competition.
- Year 10 (Mathematics + Arts): “Order in Chaos!”
Students will explore mathematical patterns and use them to create an original artwork or performance, showing how structure can fuel creativity.
- Year 11 (Individuals & Societies + Languages / Design / Food Design): “Hong Kong’s Heritage Mosaic”
Students will explore Hong Kong’s cultural heritage and identity through different interdisciplinary combinations, creating multilingual and creative products to share learning with others.
We look forward to seeing the learning, creativity, and collaboration that comes from this week. Thank you for supporting our students as they engage in meaningful interdisciplinary learning.
